I was reading the Official Android Blog yesterday and came across this little piece of information that made me quite happy!
Quite simply, Google will soon be launching an app called the Android Device Manager which allows you to locate your lost phone from anywhere. Yes, there are already tons of apps in the Play Store that allow you to do this but isn't it always sweeter to have something from the Android gods themselves?
So last night at the bar was hell loads of fun..especially since you won that beer chugging contest! What's not fun is the massive hangover you have now..and wait...where's your phone? Did you leave it at the bar? Did you get it back home with you? Where did you dump it? Don't worry..Google can help. You can use the Android Device Manager to make your phone ring on the loudest volume possible even if you had left it on the silent profile originally.
And what if you've forgotten it at the bar? You can locate it online and use Google maps to find a route back to your phone. If unfortunately it has been stolen or can't be recovered due to some reason, you can remotely wipe off all that secret stuff you've stored on your phone. At least you won't have to worry about some stranger getting access to your bank account details (or those embarrassing photos!). The app works on Android 2.2 and above and requires you to sign in to your Google Account. So you can use your family or friend's device to locate your phone.
That's about all the info Google has given us about this app for now. More details soon.
"Have you ever lost your phone in between the couch cushions or forgot it in a restaurant? Or maybe searching for your phone before you rush out the door is part of your morning routine? Later this month, the new Android Device Manager can help you out.", said +Benjamin Poiesz, Google's Product Manager for Android.
